The world-renowned Michelin Guide is set to land in Dubai for the first time ever, amidst the rise of the culinary scene in the emirate. According to Gwendall Poullenec, International Director of the Michelin Guides, the Michelin inspectors have already started checking and evaluating fine eateries across the city. Further on in this year (2022), devoted foodies will be able to visit Michelin-starred restaurants on their own and try the exquisite dishes they have to offfer.
That being said, the French rating is based on the following criterias: Quality of the ingredients, the harmony of flavours, expression of the chef’s personality in the cuisine, mastery of cooking and consistency, both across the entire menu and over time. It is worth mentioning that the guide also features the Bib Gourmand category, which is awarded for budget-friendly establishments, who provide value-for-money 3-course meals. The full selection of the Michelin Guide Dubai will be available at the website guide.micheline.com and through an online app. Dubai will become the 37th culinary location covered by the guide, which already has an expansive list of F&B venues across Europe, South America, North America and Asia Pacific.
The new initiative has been launched in collaboration with the Dubai Tourism Board (DTCM), the Head of which, Issam Kazim, said:
Already one of the world’s most popular destinations, this latest accolade for Dubai is also recognition of its emergence as a global gastronomy hub, inspired by the goal of our visionary leadership to make Dubai the world’s most sought-after destination and the best city to live, work and invest in. With Dubai home to thousands of restaurants serving a variety of cuisines from fine dining to street food, and talented chefs, the Michelin Guide Dubai will provide a fresh perspective and new insights into the diversity, creativity and multi-cultural nature of Dubai’s culinary offering. We are excited to discover the special selection for Dubai.
Another noteworthy appearance in the culinary scene of Dubai is the launch of Gault & Millau UAE. This is one of the most reputed fine-dining critique brands worldwide, which operates in over 15 territories. Founded in Paris back in 1969, the established revered rating system anonymously showcases restaurants visited by professional food critics and are subsequently ranked on a scale of 1-20, which solely focuses on the food quality. The long-awaited launch will be promoted by the Gault & Millau Middle East gala dinner in May 2022.
