In connection to the upcoming holiday, Eid-al-Adha, UAE residents will get to enjoy a long weekend. It will last for 5 or 6 days, depending on the position of the moon, which is how the start and end of Islamic Hijri calendar months is determined. Currently, we are in the 11th month of the Muslim calendar —– Dhu al-Qadah.

The festivities will be held from the 9th to the 12th of Dhu Al-Hijja. In the Gregorian calendar, the dates may vary, however, according to recent astronomical calculations, Eid-Al-Adha is likely to take place from the 27th to the 30th of June. As a result, the duration of the break will be 6 days, including the usual weekend days, Saturday and Sunday.

If the moon is sighted on the 29th of Dhu Al-Qadah, the 18th of June, Dhu al-Hijja will start the next day, the 19th of June, with the holiday beginning on the 27th of June. In the event the Moon is not sighted that night, the break will last 5 days, starting on the 28th of June.

The next public holiday in the UAE will be the Hijri New Year. It marks the start of a new lunar year and is expected to fall on the 21st of July, giving residents 3 days off.
